和製英語

viking(バイキング）という言葉は、海賊のバイキングをさし、日本語のように食べ放題の意味では使われません、注意！。食べ放題は英語では”buffet" か”smorgasbord”とよんでいる。例文："Are you having a sit-down meal or a buffet at the wedding?"
 

シュークリームと言うと、shoe cream、つまり、靴磨き用のクリームと誤解されてしまいます。シュークリームのことは英語では”cream puff”と言います。

クリームソーダ ,cream sodaというのは和製英語です。ソーダ水やコーヒーなどの上にアイスクリームを浮かせたものは英語で"float"という。例えば"soda float, coffee float"等

注意：recycle shop "リサイクルショップ"と言う表現は和製英語です。正表現は"secondhand store"か"thrift store"と言います。例文："I went shopping for prom dresses at the thrift stores and found great buys."

open cafe 「オープンカフェ」は和製英語です。
正し英語はsidewalk cafe です。
 

open car（オープンカー）は和製英語です。
正し英語はconvertible（米）又はイギリス英語では”cabriolet"と言います。例文："I have a red BMW convertible that I only drive on weekends."
 

front glass（フロントガラス）は和製英語です。英語では”windshield".例文：My windshield wipers turn on automatically when it's raining.
 

車のエンジン部分の覆いのことはボンネットbonnet じゃなく(米)"hood"と呼びます。例文："I've never opened up the hood myself.

Three size「スリーサイズ」は和製英語です。正し英語は"
measurements".
です。
例文：My measurements are now 35-25-39(inches).

T-バック （ティーバック）も和製英語である。英語では”thong”か"G-string "と言います。例文：Thong underwear takes up very little space in a drawer and easy to pack when travelling.
